In spring and summer, the weather in Albania is usually sunny. You can plan a pleasant vacation in Albania from April to mid-October and until the end of November in most of Albania. The Albanian winter is cold, mainly in northern, northeast and southeast, so temperatures drop, and most of the mountainous region of Albania is covered by snow from late December to early March. The drop in temperature in mainland Albania has been particularly impressive since the end of November, but the temperatures are still pleasant to plan your trip.

With Albania’s coastline facing the Adriatic and Ionian seas, its highlands backing onto the land of the Balkans and all spread over a latitude that is subject to a variety of weather patterns during the winter and summer seasons, Albania has a large number of a large climatic regions for such a small area. The coastal basins have a typical Mediterranean climate; have a continental climate. In both lowland and inland areas, the weather varies from north to south.

Many travellers ask about the weather during the autumn and spring period in locations of    mainland Albania such as Gjirokaster. Note that there is no stable weather in any area in Albania for these months, and it is difficult to predict in a reasonable amount of time. If you are in Albania in autumn, enjoy the weather as it is as the beauties and colours of nature are very unique.

As for the winds, you will find them mainly in the coastline  and at the tops of the mountains.

Gjirokastra is a city in southern Albania and lies on the slope of the Gjere Mountain. From the side of this mountain, it descends to the edge of the Drino river, which creates a very beautiful valley on its eastern side. The result is that the weather is rainier from the end of autumn until April.

In Gjirokastër, the summers are short, hot, dry, and clear and the winters are long, very cold, wet, and partly cloudy. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 34°F to 90°F and is rarely below 26°F or above 97°F.

The mountains of Albania and mainly of Gjirokaster, are covered by snow from December to April. At this period, it is not so safe to hike to mountain tops without the proper equipment and mountainous 4×4. The summer is almost sunny all the time in the areas of Gjirokaster. Therefore, you can safely enjoy the Albania summer in Gjirokaster, Libohova, Zagoria valley  and your nature excursions. Ideal excursions for travelers are the areas where the rivers create waterfalls and small ponds where you can enjoy a cool swim.
